Immediate Ineligibility
A patient cannot start TRT if they:
- Are under 18
- Are transgender
- Live outside mainland UK
- Have an active medical condition that is an absolute contraindication
Absolute and relative contraindications to treatment
Patients are not suitable for treatment if they have:
- Active breast or prostate cancer
- Classic Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer
- Haematocrit > 0.54
- Untreated or severe chronic cardiac failure (NYHA Class IV)
- Untreated hypertension (>180 mmHg)
- Untreated sleep apnoea (moderate to severe)
- Severe lower urinary tract symptoms
- Active liver cancer
- Blood results significantly outside the normal range
- Essential Thrombocythemia
- Actively trying to conceive
- However, we have non TRT options that could be beneficial. This should be discussed with a doctor in a consultation first.
Service contraindications
Our service cannot treat or consult with patients who have:
- End-stage COPD / emphysema / respiratory disease requiring home oxygen
- Cirrhosis
- Moderate to severe learning disability, cognitive impairment, or dementia
- Transgender treatments — these follow different clinical protocols we are not set up to deliver
