Never adjust your dose on your own. A one-off larger dose is only ever appropriate when a doctor has advised it for you specifically, because the right answer depends on your most recent testosterone level, your oestrogen to testosterone ratio and your current protocol.
What a doctor may advise, depending on your trip
- Up to one week. A doctor may recommend a single larger injection before you travel to cover the time you are away. If they do, you may not need to take your medication with you at all, and so may not need a travel letter either.
- 10 to 14 days. A doctor may recommend a larger dose before you leave to cover one week, then skipping the remaining dose while you are away.
- Longer than two weeks. You take your medication with you, keep to your usual dosing schedule, and store it appropriately.
If you are away for more than a week and taking your medication with you, you may also need a travel letter, and some destinations have their own rules. See Can I take my TRT medication abroad?
HCG
If you cannot take HCG with you, a doctor may advise a double dose before you travel to cover a trip of up to one week. Missing a few HCG doses, up to three, is not harmful. If you are taking it with you, bring sealed vials of HCG and bacteriostatic water in your hand luggage where possible, and only mix the powder once you have somewhere suitable to refrigerate it.
Treatments where this does not apply
A larger or double dose is never an option on testosterone cream or gel, Clomid, Tadalafil or aromatase inhibitors. On those treatments, carry on with your normal schedule from your next planned dose.
What to do next
Please tell us your travel dates and destination as soon as you can, at trt@manual.co. We will escalate your query to a doctor, who will advise on the safest way to manage your medication while you are away. If you have already missed doses, see Can I skip a dose?
